How long did it take for Leonardo da Vinci to paint The Last Supper ?

Da Vinci worked on The Last Supper intermittently for 3 years, starting in 1495 and ending in 1498. The large painting, 15 feet × 29 feet, depicts Jesus explaining that 1 of his 12 disciples will betray him before sunrise. Lodovico Sforza, the Duke of Milan, commissioned the mural and the original is in the dining hall in the Convent of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, Italy. The speed with which he created the mural is remarkable, considering Da Vinci was purported to be a terrible procrastinator (Mona Lisa took 20 years to complete). On his deathbed, Leonardo was said to exclaim, “Tell me, tell me if anything ever got done.”
